Summer Vacation Here We Come!

Before we know it the daffodils will be blooming and the school doors will be flung open, ending the school year. Now is the time to start planning your family's next summer vacation. Here are some destinations to consider. There is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy!

For those who like roughing it, backpacking might be your next family adventure. The Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming offer scenic rock formations, abundant wildlife, and pristine rivers and lakes for fly fishing. In Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park captivates with ancient Pueblo cliff dwellings along with its beautiful scenery. Sequoia groves and waterfalls will greet you at Yosemite National Park in California. Heading east to the heavily forested Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee and North Carolina will introduce you to the Appalachian mountain culture. It is important to remember in all backpacking areas to be respectful of nature and leave only your footprints. Since all supplies and equipment are carried by each backpacker, the age and stamina of your children will be a consideration in selecting your destination and length of stay.

If camping is more your style, there are many child friendly environments to consider. While there are many great campsites not too far from home, you may want to consider a road trip to some interesting sites mentioned below. With 127 campsites and 33 cabins, Petit State Park by Little Rock Arkansas will dazzle you with views of its beautiful Cedar Falls. In Branson Missouri, America's Best Campground will let you stay in a tent, RV, or cabin while enjoying the scenery. A short distance away is Branson's amusement parks, dinner shows, and outlet malls. In the Midwest, Fort Welikit Campground in South Dakota has horseback riding, three large lakes, and is an easy drive to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Mountain, and Custer State Park with its buffalo herds. Your road trip might take you this year to the Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona. The North Rim and the South Rim give distinctively different views of this geographical wonder. The inner canyon can be accessed on foot or by donkey rides to the canyon floor.

History buffs might consider visiting Williamsburg, Virginia. Family packages at the Kingsmill Resort offer a marina, yoga, swimming, golf, and tennis. A short distance away is historic Williamsburg, and Busch Gardens theme park. Boston, Massachusetts with its red painted Freedom Trail lends and easy way for a family to glean aspects of colonial life while strolling along Bean Town's scenic tree lined streets.

Family vacations create a wonderful environment for treasured, life long memories. With careful planning, you will have an exciting and enriching trip.

Spring Fashion Freshness

Its a whole new season so why not kick start it with some fabulous fashion finds, a change in fragrance, and maybe even a new hairdo, and dont forget to lighten up your makeup.

Its a whole new season so why not kick start it with some fabulous fashion finds, a change in fragrance, and maybe even a new hairdo, and dont forget to lighten up your makeup.

This season is full of wonderful fabrics and styles, from ultra feminine to the boldness of the ethnic prints. From short to long dress and skirt styles. From halters to cap sleeves. From tweed to pastel shades. Shoe styles vary from flip flops to wedges to stiletto heels. And be sure to check out the fabulous styles in casual and sporting sandal wear.

When choosing items for your spring wardrobe, first analyze your body shape and determine what styles will look best on you. Next decide what your favorite colors are for this season and determine what colors flatter you the most and which flatter you the least. Stay away from the colors and styles that don't flatter. Choose clothing that is most flattering, but also be sure to step out on the limb a little bit and choose a few items that are not a traditional style or color choices you would make. Dare to experiment a little bit. Its always nice to add a little spice to your wardrobe.

This season there truly is something for everyone. We see skirts that go from mini to ankle length. Full skirts, pencil skirts, flared skirts - they are all in style. We've got great selection in summer tops from open back, to halter, to baby tee's, to strapless. And shorts are arriving on the scene in a variety of lengths from short shorts to knee length.

Your color choices are truly endless! The full spectrum of pastel shades is at your fingertips. But wait, so are the vibrant bright shades such as yellow, chartreuse, turquoise, and pink. Traditional white is still in the running and is very easy to dress up or down.
This seasons jewelry is also large with something for everyone. We've got long dangles, full chandeliers, fun studs, large hoops, and more. There are plenty of rhinestones and crystals on the scene this season. And wait! Pearls have had a whole new facelift - now faux pearls are available in a wide variety of color and they don't just belong with your formal wear. This season pearls are ever so chic with your fave pair of jeans. Now that's progress!

Bangles are on the top of the fashion radar this season. Load your arm from top to bottom, wear a single, mix and match materials, sizes and styles.

Wood jewelry is the top pick to go with the ethnic prints of the season. There's some wonderful vintage pieces to be had for a reasonable price. The beauty about vintage is the exotic woods you can find which are no longer used today because of cost.

While you are busy uplifting your wardrobe and jewelry, why not uplift your body? Perhaps a new fragrance, a new hair cut or color, add some lighter shades to your makeup.

Remember to make your fashion statement you have to pamper the whole you! Spring is a time to rejuvenate, so take some time to rejuvenate not only your wardrobe but yourself.

Make your fashion statement!

Sustainable Home Building

Sustainable design is the buzzword today along with green building. There is a difference between the two. While green building means resource efficient and environmentally conscious, sustainable design is based on three areas; energy conservation, indoor air quality, and resource conservation. Viewed as new-age in construction circles, sustainable design looks at homes holistically, and not just a bunch of unrelated systems thrown together. Natural forms of energy, such as wind, solar, and geo-thermal if available on-site are maximized.

A new rating system for sustainable building has been rolled out. LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes was begun in mid-2005 by the U.S. Green Building Council on a trial basis in 12 locations across the country. It is a rating system like Energy Star Homes program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. When the pilot program is completed in 2007 a updated rating system will be issued.

Homeowners can expect sustainable homes to be at the minimum more energy efficient and offer occupants better air quality. Home building product manufactures are making many more low impact, but high performance products. To learn more about sustainable home building contact National Association of Home Builders and the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council.

How High Did Home Prices Really Go

The U.S. Census Bureau released data on Tuesday that revealed where the nation's hottest markets were during the past five years.

According to the report, median home values increased 32% from 2000 to 2005 on a national level. The survey looked at 7,000 markets with a population of 65,000 or more.

San Diego saw the highest price gains. The median home value after being adjusted for inflation increased by 127% from $249,000 to $567,000 in five years.

Of the 15 largest cities surveyed, Los Angeles came in second, with a median home-value increase of 110%. New York City came in third, with an increase of 79%.

Boynton Beach, Florida, was the top market among the 15 smallest cities surveyed. After inflation adjustments, the median home-value increased by 120%. Folsom, California, came in second where the home value increased by 100%, while Redondo Beach, California, saw a 92% gain and a third place ranking.

Just about anyone who owns a home or has been in the market for one in the past few years knows first-hand how home values jumped from 2000 to 2005, said Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon in a written statement.

In addition to the value of the home rising, the monthly cost of owning a home also increased during the first half of this decade, according to the survey. The median monthly cost, which includes mortgage payment and other costs, saw a 5% increase after adjustments for inflation.

In Detroit, the cost increased by 24%. Chicago experienced a 22% increase, while San Francisco came in third among the largest cities with an increase of 20%.

Among the smallest cities, Bryan, Texas, and Greenville, N.C., saw cost decreases of 10%.

The cost of renting a home has also increased over the past five years. Nationally, the cost to rent has increased by 6.7%. San Diego saw the largest increase of 27%.

Real median rent cost decreased in a few large cities. San Jose saw a decrease of 9%, while Dallas saw a decrease of 3%.

7 Ways to Organize Your Special Event

Did you ever go to a Special Event and lose your car? Did you panic? In the dark did you become disoriented? Did you ever feel that your program could have included more practical information? If you answered yes, read on.

Organizing a huge event takes common sense and good organizational skills. That may sound like tripe but I assure you in many cases this is not the case.

When you make out the program of the special event not only does it include the special event and the people names included in the program but other things such as:

(1)How many restrooms available and where they are located.

(2)If an area is closed off to the public.

(3)The area for the red cross or nursing care.

(4)Anything that is special and needs to be noted of special interest.

(5) For handicapped people what are the special options available to them?

(a) Are their wheelchairs available to rent?

(b) Where is the handicapped parking area?

(6) For babies. Are their strollers to rent?

PARKING LOT:

When you arrive at this special event you may not be familiar with the area and definitely not the parking lot.

The parking lot should be sectioned off and numbered in clear view. This way when you are leaving your car, you will be able to find it when you return later. If it is dark out it is easy to become disoriented and confused. It is not a joke to try and find your car when there are hundreds of others parked or it is dark and panicked.

As I said it takes a great deal of organization and common sense when you run a large special event.

Thank you for reading my article. I hope you feel free to read my other numerous articles on numerous subjects.

Appraisals Help Price Homes

Many homeowners are now paying to have an appraisal performed on their home before putting it on the market. Alan Hummel, chief appraiser for Forsythe Appraisals LLC of St. Paul, Minn. says that many homeowners are willing to pay the cost upfront.

Presale appraisals for the firm increased during the first quarter, said Hummel, as the residential real estate market has begun to see cooling in many areas and an increase in inventory.

Although many real estate agents conduct their own market analysis to price a property, the appraiser is able to come up with an independent, unbiased opinion to price the property, said Hummel. If a property isn't getting any interest, an agent might encourage the client to have an appraisal performed to make sure the home is priced appropriately.

Now, you've got to be competitive and you have to know that the offers coming in are reasonable, said Hummel.

An appraisal looks at a property from a visual standpoint. It takes into account everything from cracking paint to the proximity to schools and shopping.

We are trying to react the way a typical purchaser would, said Hummel.

The appraiser will look at the health of the local real estate market, which gives a homeowner a personalized expectation for selling the home. The homeowner must remember that the market can vary from area to area -- national news about real estate slow downs may or may not apply, said Hummel.

The appraisal report will include the details about the home, a description of the neighborhood and a side-by-side comparison of similar homes in the area. It will evaluate the area's real estate market, make notations of any major problems that affect the property value and estimate the time it will take to sell the home.

The appraisal is a opinion of the home's value. It is based on similar homes in the area that have been sold recently. It is not the same thing as a home inspection. It deals with the value, the inspection deals with the condition.

You pay for the appraisal when you purchase a home. You should request a copy from your lender, you have a federal right to receive it. When you have the house appraised before you put it on the market, you simply pay the appraiser and receive the report.

It is wise to have your home appraised before putting it up for sale. It will help you to accurately price your home. This can help you avoid problems later. You could find that you priced your home for too much or too little.
